Living in Plenty, Even On Difficult Days

Happy Thanksgiving, friend! This essay first appeared on my previous blog in 2018. I love the list of Scriptures and God-promises included below. Enjoy this updated version of “Living in Plenty.”
Even when times are difficult, Christians are living in plenty.
You may feel pressured when told to be thankful for what you have, if all you can think about is what’s gone wrong.
Most of us have been there on some level. I won’t elaborate on my family’s struggles over the years. In part, I do not want to highlight the many ways the enemy has come against us. God was and is working, and we choose to give Him the glory, instead of dwelling on the past struggles.
You are living in plenty, under the promises of Almighty God.
We look to the future, claiming a season of turnaround.
That said, any time is always a good time to be thankful. Even on our darkest days, if we pause and focus on the goodness of God, we are reminded of how blessed we are as His children.
The truth is, you are living in plenty.
By God’s hand and design, you have been given more than enough. We have enough in Jesus and find assurance of this in God's Word.
In this special Thanksgiving edition, you’ll find a list of Scriptures to bring you encouragement.1 When you struggle to find something to be grateful for, or you cannot lift your hands to praise the Lord, return to this list and remember—you are living in plenty, under the promises of Almighty God.
In this season, expect that the God of plenty is working on your behalf!
He promises plenty of Peace—
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4.7 NKJV)
He promises plenty of Food—
“You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied.” (Joel 2.26 NASB)
He promises plenty in Store—
“So your barns will be filled with plenty” and you will have “bread enough and to spare.” (Proverbs 3.10 NASB; Luke 15.17 NKJV)
He promises plenty of Mercy—
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” (Psalm 103.8 KJV)
He promises plenty of Water—
“You, O God, sent a plentiful rain.” (Psalm 68.9 NKJV)
He promises plentiful Redemption—
“For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (Psalm 130.7; John 3.16 NKJV)
He promises plenty of Production—
“The Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand.” (Deuteronomy 30.9 NASB)
He promises plentiful Grace—
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” (2 Corinthians 9.8 NASB)
He promises plentiful Healing—
“He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.” (Luke 9.11 NKJV)
He promises plentiful Resources—
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3.20 NKJV)
He promises plenty for the Future—
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2.9 NKJV)
Lord, we receive these promises that lead us to living in plenty, today.
Lists of Biblical plenty have appeared in various formats. I first came across such a list in the book Moments with Majesty by Dr. Jack Hayford, where he says he came across the list while ministering in Bristol, England (pg 235-236). So, it seems the original author is unknown, though its words are primarily taken from the Bible.
What a wonderful reminder of His abundance always and that we are the recipients of His “plenty”, which is what we need and more!
