Did you watch the eclipse? This may have been the first time since my school days that I planned to watch it unfold. Where I live in Oklahoma, it was predicted we would experience about 96% totality.
The day before the eclipse, I stopped at my local Sonic drive-in (IYKYK). By ordering their special eclipse drink I scored a free pair of glasses and was now prepared for the big event.
One article I read on the history of eclipses said, “[1970] is probably the last total eclipse that anyone reading this…in the U.S. might remember.”1 In 1970, I was nine (yes, I feel old). I remember being in the schoolyard, looking through a tiny hole in a box. According to the article, the path of totality began in Florida and moved up the Atlantic coast. So, I don’t know. Growing up in Oklahoma, I’m unsure what I may have seen through that tiny hole in a box.
Leading up to the 2024 historic eclipse, there were a lot of conspiracy theories, prophetic words, and warnings going around—postings all over social media with statements like Get your house in order… or Could this be the end?
Friend, I don’t know about you, but I was not worried for a minute. In the Fast 5 links below, don’t miss the article Christians Are Last Days People by Mitch Chase. It is a great response to doomsday speculations from a Christian perspective.
On eclipse day, at 1:45 pm, I went out to our backyard. I donned my dark Sonic glasses, leaned back in a lawn chair, and viewed something extraordinary and beautiful. Later, I shared my observations on Instagram, which went something like this.
#1—There is a God.
He is the Maker and Creator of all things and He does all things well.
#2—Psalm 148.1-6
Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above.
Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His heavenly hosts.
Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all you shining stars.
Praise Him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at His command they were created, and He established them forever and ever.
After viewing this brief but historic event, I was in awe of the majesty and wonder that is our God. Surely, He is still in control of the heavens and earth. We have nothing to fear.
And now, onto a few of my favorite things…
